As good as ice cream sounded, the thought of eating another bite right then made Natasha’s stomach turn a little, so she was glad that Clint didn’t seem to have his heart completely set on the idea, at least not for today.

“Very true,” she said, strapping one shoe around her ankle. “And tomorrow we can always have dessert first so we don’t miss out.”

Once she had both shoes back in place she smiled up at him and patted the seat in front of her for him to take so they could be on their way again. She thought she was playing everything off really well, but when Clint suggested they spend the rest of the day at his house she knew she wasn’t fooling him as well as she had thought. She didn’t want to ruin any plans he had, but if she protested and won, he would only coddle her for the rest of the day, either openly or just watching her whenever he thought she wasn’t looking. She wasn’t sure which would be worse. Either way, if he was willing to let her keep up her charade then she should be relieved and accept the reprieve he was giving her. Tomorrow was another day, and they still had plenty of time to explore.

“It does,” she agreed. “And tomorrow, after the market, we can go to the beach prepared this time to spend the whole day.”
