She knew she couldn’t live like this, couldn’t keep herself detached just in case everything took a turn for the worse, and it wasn’t fair of her to expect Clint to either. Maybe she wasn’t ready to start picking out names, but she couldn’t pretend like this wasn’t happening either, couldn’t pretend that there wasn’t a life growing inside of her.
Surprisingly, Clint’s optimism helped and she found herself smiling warmly at him and covering his hand on her belly to hold it there. There was nothing really to feel yet, but it was there, and it was time she accepted that. Worrying would only do damage and make the chances even greater of her fears coming true.
