There were so many things behind her words that she didn't say, that he didn't need to hear. They had talked about it, in the past, and these conversations had been painful enough, for both of them. Right now Clint wanted to remember the good things that had come out of the mess that had been her life. And his, too.
So instead of answering, he just nodded shortly, still close enough to her shoulder to let her feel it, and let his hand wander from her stomach up then, to take her chin softly between two knuckles and turn her head to him a little more. The kiss was short and a little sloppy thanks to the awkward position but nothing less tender. A promise in more than one way.
"Got you", he whispered, placing another open-mouthed kiss to her shoulder.
