Natasha was glad to be free of the hospital, so sterile and stifling, and while the fresh air and warm sun should have revived her, but tagging along with the solemn Clint was more than a little unnerving. He wouldn’t talk to her, wouldn’t even look at her, and Natasha was getting tempted to just put the talk off and tell him she needed some time alone. Maybe that wouldn’t be such a bad idea, a little time apart to think about this whole thing and try to decide what they truly felt, independent of one another. She kept the idea to herself but didn’t write it off yet.

She let go of his hand when he threw himself down dramatically on the wall and continued to avoid looking at her. Yes, she did want him to say something, but it became very clear that he wasn’t planning on it. She pursed her lips in irritation before taking the seat next to him.

“We can’t have this child,” she stated bluntly, keeping her eyes locked on Clint to read every reaction, no matter how minute. “Look at our jobs, look at who we are and what we do. Look at all the things we have done. A child would be a weakness enemies can exploit, and what life could we possibly give it? It would never work.”

The tone of her voice slipped at the end, though, indicating that there was very much a “but...” coming.
