Natasha noted his stumble and instinctively her
hand shot out to catch him, to steady him, but she didn’t mention it
otherwise. Still cradling her now
lukewarm tea, she led him back to the car and handed him the bottle of water he
had brought with this morning. “It’s
probably warm as piss but it’s wet,” she said, taking another sip of her tea
before setting it in the cupholder. She
didn’t encourage him any further to drink the water, just set her sights on
getting them back home.
Home, huh.
She brushed off the thought before it could settle
and drove. The mechanical function,
shifting gears and scanning the road for obstructions or surprises, occupied
her mind fairly well. She had always
been good at pushing her thoughts and emotions away to focus on a task, and
before long they were pulling into the drive outside of the house. Stepping out of the car, Natasha smiled when
Liho seemed to materialize out of nowhere to greet them.
“You can’t be back for more food,” she said. “I do hope you’re not only here to eat.”
Scooping the kitten up in her hand she was pleased
to see that all of Clint’s hard work from yesterday wasn’t for naught as Liho
hadn’t done too badly keeping herself clean. “I’ll just be a few minutes,” she said to Clint, hoping he understood
she needed a moment alone and wasn’t trying to avoid him. “Please, drink some more water.”
Giving him a pointed look she went inside the
house and straight to the bathroom, closing the door behind her.
