They didn’t get a lot of time off together, at least not enough to make a trip away worthwhile, so for this one weekend they decided to stay in the city and play tourist for the day.

They had started with a walk through Central Park before grabbing an early lunch at one of the city’s many street vendors and then wandering through the American Museum of Natural history. Natasha found the Hall of Minerals fascinating while Clint had gotten a kick out of all the dinosaur bones. They both enjoyed laying under the big blue whale with all the normal people.

Afterwards they went to a nice restaurant for supper, blending into the crowd of normal couples as best they could and Natasha actually forgot if she was playing a role or being herself as they finished their wine and shared their desserts.

“Thank you,” she said sincerely as they left the restaurant, stepping back into the cool night air. Nearby a busker played guitar and sang with surprising melody and soul, barely seeming to notice as people threw change into his open case, so caught up was he in his music.

While Clint pretended to be offended, Natasha gave him a look like you’re really denying it?. He didn’t try to convince her.

Once she was ready, just seeing that smile on his face and how he was looking her made her heart flutter. Somehow he was still able to do that, and yes, the Black Widow could actually feel butterflies in her stomach. She had missed out on all the awkward dating and school dances, but Clint had the ability to make her feel like she assumed she would have felt back then.

At his comment she held up one finger before turning away and removing her sunglasses from her bag. Slipping them on she turned back to him and smiled. “Shall we?”

It wasn’t long before they were at the beach again, and while it was far from private they had managed to find a spot that wasn’t too crowded to spread out their towels. Peeling off her dress and scarf and tucking them back in the bag, she certainly didn’t fail to notice the look Clint was giving her.

“Yes,” she answered as she knelt facing him on her towel, slipping off her sunglasses. “I don’t suppose you know anyone who would be willing to help?”

"Actually I'm pretty sure, there would be plenty of candidates", Clint commented, glaring around a little at one or the other man who threw Natasha interested glances. "I'll just have to try and protect you from all these admirers."

He couldn't keep up the mask of the jealous boyfriend for long. Temptation was much too big to spoil Natasha's body with as much attention as the surroundings allowed. And especially if she was already feeling shaken, the last thing she needed right now was a heavy sunburn.

He pulled her in his arms for a quick kiss on her temple and murmured in her ear that she should lay down and get comfortable before reaching for the bottle of sun lotion in her bag. He grew fond of that particular bikini more and more, since it had her back almost completely free. Of course he made use of that in drawing a little doodle on her skin with the sun cream - and just maybe it looked like an arrow - before he started massaging it into her skin.

He worked methodically, supplying every inch of skin from her neck down, even under the fabric of her little piece of clothing, then down her spine to her sides, gently massaging fingers seeking out every little spot, curve and hollow. She enjoyed the closeness, if only for a moment, but Clint had a task to do and she didn’t want to hold him up as it would be her that would pay for it with a painful burn. Laying on her stomach and folding her arms under her head, she closed her eyes and relaxed as he put those magic hands to work. Her stomach still felt a bit bloated and uncomfortable in this position, but his hands moving expertly over her body, leaving not an inch of skin untreated, soon had her forgetting all about it.

The brief kiss made her laugh and tilt her head down more so she could watch him when he moved on to her legs. Although her feet hardened against any torture, the backs of her knees were still a little bit ticklish, a fact she tried to hide but suspected he knew considering how much focus he gave them.

“Hmm... well, you’ve done such an excellent job so far,” she replied when he had finished. “Maybe you should do the rest as well. Just to keep the application even.” Tying her hair up again, she shifted over onto her back and poked him playfully in the side with one foot.

Clint gave a little yelp in protest when Natasha hit that one ticklish spot with utmost perfection once more. One of these days this would turn into a tickling contest, definitely. But not when they were enjoying being lazy for once so much.

"At your service, bella ragazza."

This time it was a little bow he drew around her navel with the lotion, with the matching arrow through it. Because yeah, he was 8 years old and enjoyed the fuck out of being silly from time to time. He hurried to get to work before he could earn another of these little pokes, though, looking down at Natasha with a rueful grin.

It didn't last for long. Try as she might, Natasha couldn't hide that she was tense when he touched her, and he got a vague idea that this thing with her stomach wasn't quite done with. He answered in being especially gently with her, more caressing than massaging her skin, hurrying with this certain area.

And he still kept his mouth shut because to Natasha it obviously wasn't a big deal, so there was no reason to ruin the afternoon. He just had to rely on her telling him if it got worse. Really, they had been through slightly rougher things than a sore tummy.

Natasha laughed at Clint’s little yelp. She knew one day he would make her pay for it, but today was not that day. Instead, today he seemed to be bowing to her every whim, and while she knew it was partly because he almost always did, she knew he also just really loved the excuse to rub his hands all over her.

Raising her head to watch what he was doing, she grinned at the little design he drew on her stomach in the sunscreen before he began rubbing it in, much softer than he had on her back. He had always been very perceptive, but when it came to her she swore he had a sixth sense. She had to work really hard to pull one over on him anymore.

Relaxing back on the towel again, she closed her eyes and gave into the sensation. He knew exactly how to touch her, even when there was nothing (or very little, at least) sexual about it, and she let out a content sigh as he worked, any remaining tension in her body melting away.

Shaking his head in amusement, Clint put the bottle away and reached for his own with a much lower protection level.

"I'm afraid if I let you do that, I'll have to take a swim again, and the water's not cold enough anymore."

He wasn't really being serious, but Natasha looked like she could fall asleep any second and he didn't want to tear her out of that headspace. He got his own body oiled up much quicker and with less patience and then just laid on his back for the moment. The ocean called with its seducing fresh smell and the steady quiet rumbling of the waves against the rocks next to them, and pretty soon he would follow that well-known temptation... But right now he was in the perfect mood for exactly nothing.

“Whatever do you mean?” Natasha replied as innocently as possible, squinting up at him. Chuckling at his reasoning for refusing her offer, she watched him for just a moment as he rubbed the sunblock over his chest before she let her eyes drift closed again. She heard him settle beside her, and for what felt like a long while she just listened. She could hear the rolling waves, the laughter of children, and Clint’s steady breathing beside her. All around her she heard the sounds of life, and it was this sweet cacophony that had her drifting in and out of wakefulness, never quite falling fully asleep, but enough that her mind cleared so there was nothing but sound and smell and feel.

“This may have to become a daily thing,” she said quietly, her voice sounding as lazy as she felt.

"Hm-hm. We'll need it. You know, I do plan to keep you busy at night..."

Clint peered at her lazily through one half-opened eyelid, satisfied to see that Natasha looked more relaxed than since their arrival. The few words reminded him that long minutes of dozing in a not scorching but hot enough sun had passed, and he blindly grabbed for his water bottle to oil his throat.

It helped at least from the inside but his skin was burning. As good as being lazy felt right now, at the same time he itched to move, at least enough to feel refreshed. A hardly suppressed yawn on his lips, he stretched out shortly and got up as elegantly as possible with sleepy limbs to saunter over to the shore.

He was already wading through the shallow water when he saw from the corner of his eye something round, small shot straight at him. At least his instincts weren't asleep, he caught the fairly weathered volleyball easily in the crook of his elbow.

"Wow! Nice catch, signore!"

The young local boy who had made that rather misguided throw, neared him with an impressed grin, relieved that his toy hadn't landed out in the ocean.

"Scusi, signore. I always miss."

"All about practice, kid. Hold it right there."

Clint stopped the lad before he could come too close and threw the ball back in what he thought was a pretty easy angle. Unfortunately the kid wasn't any better at catching than throwing and the toy landed flat in the sand. From the way, he moved, Clint could tell, kid had a hand-eye-coordination weakness, nothing that time couldn't fix. But you didn't need to tell an archer how frustrating it was to not hit your target.

"Not the best place for that around here, though."

He knelt down next to the kid who looked really embarrassed now, digging small holes with his toes in the sand, and handed the ball over, balancing it on a fingertip.

"Can you do that?"

Kid tried and made it after two attempts which had him smiling in surprise.

"See? You have clever hands. Take that ball to the next wall and start training there. This for example."

Clint snatched the ball back quickly to throw it in the air and clap his hands a few times between throws and catches, before finally returning it for good.

"I will! Thanks, signore. Next time we play together!", the boy added quickly before running off, following a rather impatient shout of a woman busy with two more kids a few feet away.

Clint watched him go with a small grin and finally got into the water then.

He was far too lazy to try and break any records, but he still made it without problems out to the small row of buoys marking the safe territory. There he lingered on his back for a while, diving a few times to let his eyes get used to salt water again.

Only when a few jellyfish threatened to get too curious, he made his way back, still without any hurry, and got comfortable on his towel again, on his stomach this time, with his head comfortably buried on his arms.

"Now, this is what I call a human water temperature."

Natasha heard Clint vacate his towel and gave him a minute to get to the water before turning her head to watch him. He really was beautiful; his muscles were well defined but there was still a softness to him that made it less harsh; his skin was perfectly tanned except for where decades worth of scars left tiny white lines. He was a work of art, and if Natasha were an artist he would certainly be her muse.

Smiling at the image he presented walking along the water, she was about to close her eyes again when a volleyball flew straight at him and he caught it easily before it struck. One of the local boys approached him, but when Clint tossed him the ball and the kid missed, of course Clint couldn’t just let it go. He had to impart some words of wisdom, trying to help the kid improve.

It was a bit strange watching their exchange after the conversation they had had yesterday. Clint was so terrified of ending up like his father, and while it was good for them that Clint didn’t want children Natasha couldn’t help but feel a pang of sadness watching him with the kid. He was so patient and encouraging, she had no doubt that he would be a wonderful father given the chance.

A chance she could never give him.

Even as that thought crossed her mind she felt her stomach flip. Though she had no doubts about Clint, she was starting to question other things she had thought to be certainties.

She pushed those thoughts away.

Watching Clint as he swam and floated in the water, Natasha rested one hand on her stomach before closing her eyes again until he returned to her side. When he had laid down and gotten comfortable she rolled over onto her stomach and leaned her head against his arm. His skin was warm and wet and she couldn’t resist placing a quick kiss against his bicep. “I may have to try it for myself.”

The soft feeling of Natasha's lips against his skin tickled on his damp skin and drew a satisfied little noise from his lips. He flexed his muscles her little to send the small drops of water rolling over his arm and give her something to watch and opened his eyes just enough to look at her.

"Hm-hm, you definitely should."

But at the same time he reached out to push her hair out of her face to get a better look and let his hand rest softly on her neck, one fingertip playing with her bikini bow.

"You know, since it's now my turn to stare at your ass and all..."

It was a statement, not a question, and really not a serious one, yet he couldn't help but wonder if she had indeed looking out for him a little, seen him fool around with that kid from before. After all the crisis of the last days, he wouldn't be surprised if even such a harmless scene made her melancholic.

Natasha figured it was impossible to not stare at his arms when he flexed, though she was pretty sure he knew that. They were definitely one of his best features, not just for their strength, but how deceptively gentle they could be as well.

“Maybe I will,” she said, tilting her head slightly at his touch. She could feel it in his gaze, a certain weight that meant he was searching for something, worried even. She hated being so sick and vulnerable. They were supposed to be here for him, taking care of him, but now he was so focused on her, just one step away from treating her like fragile glass, that he wasn’t focusing on himself like he should be. At least today she had thought she was doing a good job of banishing his worries.

“You can get a better look with me here,” she said. “Or a closer one, at least.”

"As usual, you have the better argument."

Clint rolled to his side a little and rested his head on his shoulder, eyes slowly, harmlessly roaming Natasha's body.

"You know, from time to time I need a refresher course in how hot your ass is."

His hand followed the line of his gaze, playfully, fingertips dipping into the line of her back and the small hollow right above her butt but behaving for now. They weren't alone. This was just about distracting her a little, just in case she wasn't only as lazy as he was but maybe still battling the last of whatever was bugging her body.

Her skin was wonderfully warm and soft under his administrations, only a few grains of sand here and there that he blew away gently, leaning up on his arm and over her body enough for a few tender kisses down her spine.

"Yep, definitely, still the best ass on the whole island."

Natasha was used to being admired, and it was no secret that she turned heads nearly everywhere she went, but only Clint had ever made her feel like she was the only woman in the world, or that the entire world had dropped away around them. She was not the type of woman to get upset or jealous if she caught him looking at another woman, but even though it wouldn’t bother her it just never seemed to happen. When they were together it was like he only had eyes for her.

Smirking at his words, she watched him through hooded eyes as his hand grazed down her spine. His breath on her skin made her shiver, and his kisses were soft, perfect. Maybe tonight she could convince him to press them against every inch of her skin.

She had the feeling it wouldn’t take much convincing.

“I’m glad you still think so,” she said. “Though it’s not really a fair assessment if you haven’t seen every ass on the island.”

"I'm talking from years of experience here, red. And the odds say, after meeting a great deal of asses in my life, there's definitely none as great as yours in this world."

Clint finished his little game on her back with the smallest of bites right on the curve of one delicious butt cheek and laid back down then. With his arm casually draped over Natasha's back, his fingertips could easily graze up and down her side, occasionally tugging a little on the side of her panties, but never enough to reveal even the smallest glimpse of skin to a possible audience.

Of course he had spotted all these small shivers on her skin where his lips had touched her and he would have loved to play that out a little longer, but sadly this was hardly the right surroundings for that. He'd just have to catch up later at length with that plan.

The increasing burning of his own skin especially on his back reminded him, he still had to get some oil there if he didn't want to sleep on his stomach tonight instead of any interesting activities. With an unnerved sigh, he reached for that bottle again and batted his eyelashes a little at Natasha.

"Can I bribe you with ice cream to get your hands on me?"

Natasha gave Clint a playful swat when he actually nipped at her butt before settling back down on his towel. “I’ve met plenty of asses too, but not so much in the literal sense,” she quipped, folding her arms and resting her head on them. She let him continue to play his fingers along her skin, the ghost of a smile curving her lips as she settled in to relax again. It was soon time to find out for herself just how much the water had warmed since the morning, but she waited until Clint moved first before pushing herself up to her knees.

“You really think you have to bribe me to run my hands all over you?” she practically purred, taking the bottle of sunscreen from him. “Though if ice cream is on offer I’ll take it.”

Moving to his towel, she slung one leg over him to straddle his hips before sitting lightly on his firm backside. With the lotion in hand, she ran a thin bead down his spine to finish with an arrowhead between those two beautiful dimples on his back, clearly teasing him for his own actions earlier. Setting the bottle aside she smoothed her hand straight up that line before focusing first on the broadest expanse of his back, applying even pressure and lotion along his shoulders, one hand slipping up to cover his neck. She massaged his muscles as she worked, methodically making sure that ever bit of his skin was covered so there would be no surprising burns.

Leaning forward, she brought her lips close to his ear just long enough to say “this may be the best part of going to the beach,” before she sat back again and continue her work, her fingertips slipping just slightly beneath the waistband of his shorts.

Clint soon forgot any kind of witty remark he could have made, but he made a mental note to get that ice cream next thing as soon as he could move again. Natasha knew just too damn well how to chase away worry still lingering on his mind, and turn him into a boneless puddle with just a few touches.

The nearly non-existent weight of her body against his was a promising touch that he moved against from time to time, flexing just enough to let her feel it. But mostly he allowed himself to just enjoy the little of closeness they could exchange here. Her little joke with the sun cream was on him of course and drew an amused snort from his lips.

"Trying to tell me something, red?"

His words soon got slurred and swallowed in sighs and purrs as Natasha worked her way up his body. She was just too fucking good with this.

To keep up with this whole artistry and super spy-condition, his workout consisted mostly of stuff to keep his leg muscles in shape. Archery did the rest of the trick and especially his back was formed by decades of stance, nock and release. Or as the physical therapists at S.H.I.E.L.D. liked to call it - or had, before he had played puppy for an alien and people had started to avoid treating him - a nightmare for every proper massage. Natasha though, whose strength could nearly keep up with his, had always known the right way of forcing and soothing away tension and hurt out of his muscles.

Even now when it was really more a caress than a relentless grip, she had him melt into that towel and the fine sand and pebbles below in no time. He wondered shortly if with a little more 'bribing' he could bring her to give him a real long massage one of these days and had a funny feeling, she wouldn't say no.

It was embarrassing how close he was to dozing off again when she finished off her work and sneaked these oil smooth fingertips definitely too close to certain sensitive body parts. Something between a grunt and a moan came from his lips. Hopefully Natasha was distracted enough to miss the warm shivers running down his spine at once...

"Couldn't agree more..."

Natasha didn’t reply to his comment, but if they were talking about fine asses on this island, then she had certainly pointed in the right direction.

She loved the feel of his muscles beneath her hands, and how she could make them relaxed and pliant with just the right movements and pressures. He carried so much tension in his body that she took great satisfaction in feeling him practically melt beneath her, not to mention the sounds he made once in a while, especially there at the end.

Climbing off of him she turned around before resuming her seat, this time working the lotion into his strong legs just as thoroughly as she had his back. When she had finished she took a long drink of water before placing a soft kiss to the bottom of his foot and standing up.

“Now it’s your turn to stay her and bake while I take advantage of the warm water... though you’re welcome to join me at any time,” she said, letting his foot drop back down to the sand.

Natasha was dangerously close to tickle certain sensitive spots again but somehow Clint kept himself from startling and just enjoyed the last of her touches, definitely over much too soon.

"I think I'll just enjoy the view for a while."

He grinned up at her lazily, his chin propped on his crossed arms for a good view on the water. And on her sparely clothed body of course. She was drawing stares, definitely. It was that aura of confident, classic, aristocratic beauty that differed her from any other woman hew knew. And he definitely wasn't the only one to realize.

Not that he had to worry about someone trying anything - or Natasha not being able to escape any situation - but sometimes it was too fun not to pretend, to needle her a little. The feedback was certainly always... interesting.

"And you know, protect you from all kind of monsters. Or drowning. Maybe I should bring red bathing trunks and a rescue can tomorrow."

“Suit yourself,” she said, stretching her arms over her head in a way that could have looked innocent, but that clearly was meant to give him an improved view to watch. “It’s an open ended offer.”

Taking another sip of water, she bent over a little more than necessary to replace the bottle on the sand before giving Clint a look. “I think I have a bigger chance of getting grabbed by something right here,” she said, giving him a little poke with her toe before slipping away. “Though I wouldn’t say no to the red trunks.”

Giving him a little wave, she made her way to the water and wasted no time before diving in. It was much warmer than earlier, and this time she didn’t worry about getting her hair wet. She dove under, inspecting the bottom for shells and unusual rocks before surfacing again, the sun hot against her skin as soon as she surfaced. Turning to the shore just long enough to pinpoint Clint, she kicked up onto her back and let herself float there, the sun bright even behind her closed lids.

"Hm-hm, this guy here you can beat up without consequences though if he's being an asshole."

Clint just grinned and enjoyed the very alluring pictures she was creating for him with her body language instead of wasting time with pouting.

Even when she wasn't putting up a show, she was being utterly beautiful. Natasha was a woman of exceptional grace which only amplified a thousand times in the water. The waves carried her easily since she didn't even try to fight the strong tide but just went with it. The heat didn't seem to weigh on her as heavily as yesterday and in the morning anymore, which he was very thankful for. She had fun. That happened much too seldom and it was the really beautiful thing to watch.

When she finally stilled and let herself be carried, Clint allowed himself to understand it as an invitation and followed her back into the water willingly. He didn't even try to near her quietly to not startle her. He got behind her slowly and wrapped his arms around her stomach to pull her close, bury his face against her neck while he kept them afloat with lazy kicks. Out here where they couldn't be watched so easily, he didn't hold back as much but covered her skin with small kisses, licks and nibbles while enjoying the weightless feeling of the waves carrying them.

"Love it when you taste of salt", he murmured into her ear, arms tightening their grip just a little to pull her close against him.

Once she had settled in to just float around lazily, it didn’t take Clint long to join her. She heard him approaching, and while it could have been anyone she somehow knew it was him even before he wrapped his strong arms around her. Letting him pull her out of her floating position, she kicked her feet slowly to help keep them afloat, her arms moving through the water around them.

Out here away from the crowd Clint was a little more persistent, and she grinned at the attention he was giving her neck. Sure, people could still see them, but they would have to really be watching to get anything out of it, and there was a lot more interesting things to watch than a single couple way out in the water.

“Salt and sunscreen,” she teased, laying her head back against his shoulder and giving him a completely unmarred view of her chest.

"Well, that's a drug I could get used to then."

Chuckling, Clint nuzzled his cheek against these spots he had just been tended to with his lips and glanced down unashamed at the perfect view Natasha was offering him. Not fair, definitely.

The waves steadily played around her curves and tempted him to let one hand wander upwards, two of his knuckles only caressing the underside of her breasts, to make sure everything not meant for stranger's eyes stayed underwater. Well, if that was how she wanted to play, he was all game...
